- Description
- Technical specifications
LOCTITE® 290 is a liquid medium/high-strength threadlocker designed for the locking and sealing of threaded fasteners. Because of its low viscosity and capillary action, the product wicks between engaged threads and eliminates the need for disassembly prior to application. The product cures when confined in the absence of air between close-fitting metal surfaces and prevents loosening and leakage due to shock and vibration. The product can also fill porosities in welds, castings and powdered metal parts.
-
Works on metal only
-
Ideal for locking preassembled fasteners, e.g. instrumentation fasteners, electrical connectors and set screws
-
Proven to be tolerant of minor contamination due to industrial oils, e.g. motor oils, corrosion prevention oils and cutting fluids
-
Requires heat for disassembly

How to use
It is recommended to use LOCTITE® SF 7070™ to degrease and clean surfaces prior to applying adhesive.
Assemble nut and bolt. Dispense a low-viscosity wicking grade threadlocker, such as LOCTITE 290, at the nut and bolt juncture.
Disassemble with standard hand tools.
If disassembly is not possible using normal hand tools, apply localized heat to approximately 500°F/260°C. Disassemble while hot with standard hand tools.
For the disassembly of corroded or seized parts use LOCTITE® LB 8040™ Freeze and Release.
FAQ
Prevent vibration loosening, prevent leaks, protect threaded components from corrosion and increase the reliability of mechanical fasteners by using a LOCTITE® anaerobic threadlocking adhesive.
The standard continuous operating temperature range for LOCTITE® anaerobic adhesives is -65°F to +300°F (-55˚C to +150˚C). Depending on the specific application requirements, high-performance grades are also available offering increased temperature resistance. Please consult with the Henkel technical team for availability and grade selection.
Yes, Henkel's anaerobic adhesives become highly resistant thermoset polymers once cured, making them suitable for a vast number of applications. Consult our online product resources or contact our technical teams for further information.
Yes, these products are all anaerobic adhesives that will function in a similar way. Variations in the adhesive characteristics (viscosity, gap-fill, strength, etc.) will make them better suited to certain applications. Consult the product technical data sheets and/or Henkel representatives for further information.
All necessary H&S measures and PPE (personal protection equipment) requirements can be found on the product material safety data sheet, all of which are available via our website.
