LOCTITE® SI 596 is a red, 1-part, flowable smooth, acetoxy silicone paste sealant. It forms a tough, flexible, waterproof, oil-resistant silicone rubber bond. It is also used as a sealant and adhesive in industrial furnaces, ovens, boilers, exhaust stacks, high temperature ducting and heating elements in electrical appliances.

How to use
Ensure all surfaces are cleaned to remove any residual adhesives, oil and grease. Use LOCTITE® SF 790™ for easier removal of old adhesive residues. LOCTITE® SF 7070™ cleaner is recommended for general surface cleaning and degreasing prior to bonding.
Use supplied nozzle and, where appropriate, cut the end to give the desired bead size. Dispense adhesive bead(s) directly onto the surface to be bonded or sealed; parts should be assembled immediately to prevent partial curing and shimming. Prevent the assembled parts from moving during cure. For large areas where both substrates are impermeable to moisture, do not cover the complete bonding area with adhesive - allow some gaps for moisture to penetrate the bond line. Any remaining gaps can be filled once the adhesive has cured.
Hold the nozzle at a 45° angle and pull along the bondline while applying dispense pressure. Test on a piece of scrap to find the appropriate speed that gives the required bead size. After assembling the parts, wipe away product squeezed out of the joint with a gloved finger or a finishing tool. Leave the nozzle on the cartridge after use to act as a sealing cap.
FAQ
The operating temperature range for standard LOCTITE® anaerobic threadlockers / thread sealants / gasketing adhesives is -55°C to +150°C. High-performance anaerobic grades, or alternative technologies such as silicones, can offer significantly improved temperature resistance depending on the specific application requirements. Consult Henkel's online product resources or contact our technical teams for further information.
For flange sealing applications anaerobic adhesives are preferable when high strength is required (usually for rigid machined parts rather than pressed/flexible flanges); when high chemical/solvent resistance is required; and on metal components where there is limited moisture or exposure to the environment. Silicones are recommended where there are large gaps, open/exposed bond areas, or when high flexibility or extremely high temperature resistance (generally in excess of 150°C) is required.
Both silicones and SMP adhesives provide excellent flexibility and gap-filling properties together with high adhesion to a wide range of substrates, making them ideal for elastic bonding & sealing applications. Silicones have superior thermal resistance for high-temperature applications whereas SMP adhesives are suitable for applications that require over-painting. There are a range of properties available for each technology type. Please speak with a Henkel representative regarding your application to determine the best available grade.
LOCTITE® silicone adhesives can be used for such applications. High temperature resistance is a necessity and materials like LOCTITE® SI 5920™ or LOCTITE® SI 5990™ can be considered.
